World's Richest Pop Stars Have Pretty Nice Homes
You've heard their songs. And probably had them stuck in your head. You know their names, their faces, and probably even their dance moves, even if you've never bought a single one of their albums. They're pop stars, and they rake in millions of dollars for their music and concert tours.
But where do Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Madonna go when it's time to part ways with the dance troupe, kick off the pumps and hang up their costumes?
These are the million-dollar mansions of the world's most famous pop music singers. Come see where the living legends live.
Lady Gaga Lives in Malibu
Lady Gaga bust onto the scene with her debut album, "The Fame," with radios around the world blasting "Poker Face" and "Just Dance" seemingly on repeat.
Gaga's worth about $320 million, so she can pick and choose quite literally any house in the world she chooses to rah-rah and ga-ga around in.
So where did she choose? Malibu, California, where the weather's always nice, and the property values have nowhere to go but up.
Gaga's Gypsy Palace
This backyard with its sweeping, unobstructed ocean views was also the spot where Gaga sealed the deal on her first starring movie role.
Bradley Cooper met Gaga at home after seeing her play live the night before. The two met in the backyard, where they quickly realized they had great chemistry. Cooper asked Gaga to appear in the film then and there.
When it isn't being used to make life-changing deals, this backyard is also just a space to relax. There is ample seating, an infinity pool, and plenty of green space for Gaga to get away from it all.
Boho? No, Not Really
Gaga's "Gypsy Palace" (as she likes to call it) is a great spot to kick back in front of the infinity pool and watch the sunset over the ocean to one side and the mountains to the other.
While Gaga might like to call this a simple boho-style abode, the mansion has both ocean and mountain views. Not exactly the kind of down-to-earth spot you'd normally associate with the boho lifestyle.
And she paid $22.5 million for it in 2014.
As for the details, the home has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms with 10,270 square feet of living space.
There's an 800-bottle wine cellar, a home theater, wet bar and a two-lane bowling alley. Outside you'll find a bocce ball court on the six acres of grounds, which also feature an eight-horse stable and dressage ring.
Much of the home and surrounding grounds are as massive as you'd imagine for a pop star, but the property also has a few hidden nooks and crannies.
Here, this tucked-away courtyard has a Spanish-villa-influenced style complete with a built-in outdoor stucco fireplace.
We'd imagine if you're going to hide from the paparazzi (or sing about them), this quaint, private escape is the place to do it.
Boho Life for a Price
Inside, the professionally designed home carries on the Gypsy Palace, boho feel — just a very, very expensive version of it.
This open-concept space includes a dining room that leads into a den. Both rooms feature tons of Spanish-influenced architectural elements like exposed wood beam ceilings and floor-to-ceiling French doors.
The rooms include custom chandeliers as well as wall sconces. And, of course, there is an oversized fireplace to bring it all together.
Going Gaga for the Kitchen
The space is perfect for filming Gaga at home. It's not as over-the-top as many celebrity kitchens, but still fancier than anything we could ever hope to afford.
This kitchen features all kinds of boho touches like open shelving, custom lighting, exposed wood beams and top-of-the-line appliances.
You can get another glimpse of Gaga's kitchen in her documentary, "Gaga: Five Foot Two."
Mariah Carey Rented a Mansion for Quarantine
Mariah Carey makes millions of dollars every year when Christmas rolls around, earning at least $600,000 between November and Christmas thanks to her "All I Want For Christmas Is You" holiday earworm.
Carey typically spends her days in a luxe New York City penthouse, but when the pandemic hit, she opted to rent an insanely large, incredibly lavish mansion in Westchester County, New York.
It Has a Violin-Shaped Pool
So where did you spend quarantine? Crammed in a too-small apartment with your spouse, trying not to kill one another? Trapped in your house waiting for the UPS driver to swing by so you might have some human contact through the window?
Carey spent hers renting this sprawling,10,500-square-foot, six-bedroom mansion. And in case that wasn't enough space to roam around in, the equally expansive grounds include a violin-shaped pool.
Because why not?
Of course, you'd expect a home of this caliber to include a lot of unusual and impressive architectural details, and this one does not disappoint.
The entrance splits off into a V-shape, revealing two dueling archways stretching down each hall. It has a very Georgian feel.
To give the space another touch of luxury, the rooms are tied together through waist-high wainscoting. The hallways are lit by custom light fixtures. And the marble floor was expertly chosen to round it off.
Cooking During Quarantine
Does Carey cook? Maybe. But if not, the five-person support team she took to lockdown with her (she calls them her "quarantine pod") had plenty of room to mill about in this spacious chef's kitchen.
With floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, top-of-the-line appliances (including a double oven) and a large kitchen island, they could have easily made the sourdough bread craze from Instagram, cooked any number of weird things from TikTok or just whipped up some comfort food.
There's a Full-Fledged Gym
Being stuck at home during lockdown resulted in a shortage of exercise equipment like weights. Not to mention, getting your recommended cardio proved to be a challenge.
But not if you're one of the richest pop stars in the world. The gym includes just about all the workout equipment the singer (or her "pod") would need to stay fit, wall-to-wall mirrors to keep track of their form, a TV to stave off boredom on the stationary bike, and even a washing-up space to cool off.
But hey, some rusted free weights and a yoga mat stored under your bed are cool too, right?
A Glittering Home Theater
Ride out the end of the world in style with this savvy home theater, which features an automatic drop-down projection screen, super comfy plush leather seats and subtle, moody lighting.
Even "Glitter" would be an enjoyable watch in this room.
OK, maybe not.
A Closer Look at the Pool
The pool really is massive — 90 feet long. And not only is it large and shaped like a violin, but it also comes with light-up "strings."
The mansion is now up for sale at $8.5 million, which is somewhat less than we expected. No word on how much Carey paid to rent the place.
Check Out Her NYC Triplex
Carey's longtime home has been a triplex in New York City's Tribeca neighborhood that she has owned for over 20 years.
She doesn't share photos of it often now, but she did once let MTV in for an episode of "MTV Cribs."
The penthouse features a gym, a salon and a "Moroccan Room" with wall-to-wall skyline views of New York City.
There's also an incredible closet.
Mariah's Closet Is Bonkers
It's no joke to say that Carey's closet could double as a multimillion-dollar apartment in itself.
We don't know the exact square footage, but the pop star has thousands of articles of clothing, including a purse from Floyd Mayweather and a compact mirror that once belonged to Marilyn Monroe.
She also told Vogue that she owns Monroe's childhood piano.
So Many Shoes
Mariah Carey owns hundreds of shoes, but did you know she may have started the low-rise jean trend of the early 2000s?
According to Carey, she and her stylist were doing a shoot and she was wearing a pair of high-waisted jeans.
"I was like what is with the high waisted jeans, why? [Her stylist] cut a little bit of them and then we both ripped it, the top off the jeans," Carey told Vogue. "And I went to the studio and my friend was like, 'Yo, where did you get those jeans from?' And then I noticed a lot of people started wearing the jeans ripped up, like the top ripped off of the jeans."
"I'm not taking total credit," she added.
Beyoncé Lives in a 30,000-Square-Foot Mansion
Beyoncé and her rap superstar hubby, Jay-Z, live in a super-massive mansion in Los Angeles. Combined, the two are worth around $1.8 billion, making them one of the most powerful celebrity couples in the entire world.
Beyoncé has topped the charts for well over a decade with songs like "Crazy in Love," "Run the World" and "Single Ladies," and is worth somewhere around $500 million without Jay-Z in the picture.
And yes, their mansion absolutely reflects their ridiculous net worth.
A $252,000 Monthly Mortgage Payment
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of interior photos of this massive estate, as the couple prefer to keep their home life private. Mostly we just have clips from peeping drones flying over their ultra-modern mansion.
The couple bought this Bel-Air home for $88 million in 2017, cutting a deal that was $32 million less than its initial asking price of $120 million. Reportedly, they even took out a $52.8 million mortgage to finance the sale, paying about $252,000 a month in house payments.
Queen Bey Lives Good
What we do know about the house we can glean from drone videos and a few sparse Instagram photos shared on Queen Bey's social media.
The house has a long, gated driveway and rooftop decks with perfectly manicured grass. There are three pools, two of which flank a large back staircase, and one longer pool below.
The mansion has eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and measures an astounding 30,000 square feet of living space.
Britney Spears Lives in California
Britney Spears has had a successful and storied career. She released "Baby One More Time" when she was just 17 years old and instantly became a pop sensation, with that album going platinum 14 times over.
Fast-forward to today and the "Free Britney" movement has spurred hundreds of thousands of hashtags and even a documentary. After having a breakdown in 2007 and shaving her head, she was hospitalized and shortly thereafter put in a conservatorship, meaning she's no longer in control of her finances.
We're not going to try and explain what's going on with Spears (The New York Times' "Framing Britney Spears" documentary is on Hulu), but we are going to take a peep inside her Californian mansion.
Her House Is Her Palance
Spears has lived an infamously private life and has been locked away in this spacious Italian-style villa for quite some time.
But fans still catch glimpses of Spears on Instagram, where she posts photos and videos (mostly of her dancing) alongside her children on this home's 21-acres.
Here, Spears is relaxing in one of the home's lush garden retreats.
Her Mansion Is Huge
Spears bought the five, bedroom, 7.5-bathroom, 13,264-square-foot house for $7.4 million in 2015. It's quite large and features a full-sized tennis court, an infinity pool, central fountain, three-green golf course with sand traps and an orchard.
The home is located in Thousand Oaks, California.
The Entrance is Grand
If the Princess of Pop can do anything, it's make an entrance. And this home proves it isn't just on stage where Spears likes to enter the scene in a big way.
Surrounded by impeccably manicured gardens, this home's massive two-story entrance includes a circle drive, water feature, and Juliet balcony so Spears can greet visitors in royal style.
If anyone visits her at all.
The Living Room Is Massive
While not as over-the-top opulent as some of the other rooms on this list, the sitting room certainly doesn't look like any we've ever kicked back in and watched a documentary about a trapped popstar.
The massive open space is two stories high, complete with two sets of floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony providing an overlook from the second floor.
The Kitchen Has a Huge Island
Here's where Spears whipped up "the meanest sandwich known to mankind" on Instagram. What was it? Shredded chicken, turkey, goat cheese, pecans, avocado, pears and lettuce on ciabatta bread. Sounds good, actually.
The kitchen has an unusual oblong shape with rounded walls of windows and a truly huge island. It's also stacked to the brim with luxury must-haves like top-of-the-line appliances and a range that appears to be built into the house.
The custom wrought-iron chandelier is a nice touch, too.
When it comes to enviable studies, this one is certainly in the running. The cozy nook features floor-to-ceiling hardwood, a large and impressive fireplace and plenty of architectural details to give it that extra bit of style.
Just beyond the desk, three ornately designed floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the estate's 21 acres.
A Quiet Retreat
Like the rest of the world, we don't really know a lot about Spears. But we do know she was mercilessly hounded by the paparazzi and probably values privacy and relaxing property features above anything else.
This spot looks out on to an expertly manicured French-style courtyard, complete with mature shade trees and a calming water feature. Her life hasn't been easy, but at least she has some extremely nice, quiet places to relax and reflect.
Lit Up for the Holidays
When it's Christmas time, Spears pulls out all the stops and has this home decked out "Christmas Vacation" style for the most wonderful time of year.
Do you think she has a lot of people over for Christmas dinner?
Madonna Bought the Weeknd's Mansion
Madonna is one of the richest singers in the world. Now in her 60s, the Queen of Pop splits her time between a mansion in Portugal and her new home in Hidden Hills, California.
She bought it from The Weeknd for $19.3 million in April 2021, almost a year after the "Blinding Lights" singer had initially listed it.
It's Very In Vogue
The mansion is 12,547 square feet with a seven-bedroom main house, two-bedroom guest house and a total of nine full bathrooms.
Roll up front and park your Bugatti on the motor court, which has been crisscrossed with bright green grass for a visually appealing style.
The Weeknd bought the mansion for $18.2 million in 2017, a couple of years after he released "Beauty Behind the Madness."
Black and White Stylings
The double-height entryway features a floor-to-ceiling window wall, bulb pendant lighting and large square-shaped entryways.
Black and white is the color palette of choice here, with The Weeknd keeping it nice and modern. What kind of stylings Madonna will bring to the place is a mystery.
She's been making waves on social media after posting lip-locking photos of her and her new 27-year-old boyfriend.
Two Counters in the Kitchen
It'll be easy to cook up anything for the very first time in this very spacious kitchen, which has two marble-wrapped kitchen islands, a double stainless steel (Viking?) stove, oodles of recessed lighting and hardwood flooring.
It's like a prayer answered for home chefs.
The Wine Room Is Lit Like a Disco
The 2017-built home features a wine room lit up with neon blue lighting.
There's more than enough space for a couple hundred wine bottles, so you can go into full "can't feel my face" mode whenever you feel like getting into the groove.
The groove of being very drunk.
A Garage From 'Tron'
The most striking feature of this expensive and expansive property is the three-door garage.
It features shiny, reflective black floor and blue neon lights along with a lighted ceiling.
It's something straight out of "Tron," and we haven't seen anything else quite like it.
Three Acres of Bliss
Madonna now owns three acres of pristine Hidden Hills property. Outside, the two-bedroom pool house leads directly to a spa and pool. Directly across from that, the main house has pocket doors that open up to the outside as well.
Madonna is still making music and touring. Her "Madame X Tour" was cut short by the pandemic and was marred by a knee injury, but it still grossed over $51.3 million and sold nearly 180,000 tickets.
