Inside Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's Beverly Hills Homes
Celebrity power couple Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are selling their gorgeous seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom, 8,500-square-foot steel-and-clay mansion for $23.95 million.
Located at the end of a private drive in Beverly Hills, California, the chic modern home was completely remodeled to the couple's liking.
Come take a tour of the musician and supermodel's stunning digs. And then see where they're moving.
Update: On Sept. 30, 2020, Teigen revealed on Instagram that they lost their third child due to a miscarriage. Our hearts go out to Teigen and Legend.
A $10 Million Price Increase
Tiegen and Legend have lived in this house for over four years, purchasing it from superstar singer Rihanna for $14.1 million in January 2016.
That's a nearly $10 million price increase and certainly outpaces rising property values in the area.
So what warrants the 70 percent price increase?
Rihanna Hated This Place
Rihanna apparently hated this house. The "Umbrella" singer bought the home for $6.9 million in 2009, then filed a lawsuit two years later because a "moderate rainstorm" in January 2010 caused flooding and water damage.
She filed a lawsuit in 2011 against the former owners, the property inspector and the listing agency. She alleged negligence, fraud and breach of contract.
The case was settled in July 2014 for undisclosed terms.
A Big Remodel
Legend and Teigen remodeled the house to their liking, swapping out Rihanna's white walls with a warmer beige and completely remodeling the staircase.
Rihanna originally had a floating staircase with glass railing. Teigen and Legend made a staircase encased in steel and clay that bends up to the second floor.
A Hand-Carved Ceiling
According to The Wall Street Journal, they re-employed their longtime interior designer, Don Stewart, to make the changes.
The couple wanted the home to reflect Teigen's Taiwanese roots. The ceiling is made from imported teak wood from Thailand. The ceilings are 33 feet high.
Ready for a Night on the Town
Teigen, 34, is incredibly popular on Instagram, where she has 31.2 million followers. She rose to fame by modeling and then by being a celebrity chef.
Legend, 41, is a prolific musician and producer, racking up numerous accolades throughout his career and is the first Black man to win an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Tony award. They married in 2013.
This photo, posted to Teigen's Instagram, shows the couple dressed to the nines and posing in their living room.
A 'Legendary' Piano
Possibly included in the sale is Legend's Yamaha piano. The "All of Me" singer and "The Voice" coach has been playing piano since the age of 4.
The built-in shelves on the wall are lined with Legend's numerous awards, including his Oscar.
Open Floor Plan Kitchen
The two completely redid the kitchen and swapped out Rihanna's dining area for a cozy couch.
"We like the kitchen to be part of life, so it’s not cordoned off from the rest of the house," Legend told the Wall Street Journal.
Around Christmas time of 2018, Teigen dressed up like Princess Jasmine and watched Aladdin.
Seems like a good place to take a break from cooking.
The kitchen, of course, is one of the couple's most important places. Chrissy runs a cooking show on her YouTube channel, has written two best-selling cookbooks and has her own line of cookware called Cravings.
This space used to have a kitchen island for cooking and a separate breakfast bar to sit at. The couple merged those ideas together.
They also added a small wraparound wood table for their kids to sit at.
A Great Place to Cook
Legend will sometimes cook on his wife's cooking channel. Here he's making quesadillas with avocado spread.
This angle provides a good look at some of the kitchen's details, like its numerous drawers and cabinets and stove.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the kitchen has three ovens and two stovetops.
The fridge is the size of a closet, and there are two of them. Wedged between these two huge refrigerators is a small wine cooler.
Teigen eats healthy, but her favorite food is Legend's fried chicken.
Lots of Shelving
Another angle from one of Teigen's YouTube videos shows the far right corner of the kitchen. It also shows her mom, Vilailuck, who lives with them.
Vilailuck frequently appears on her daughter's Instagram and YouTube channel.
A Big Pantry
A snapshot of the couple's pantry, via Teigen's Instagram.
That's Teigen and Legend's 4-year-old daughter, Luna, who has posted up on a step stool for a snack.
She doesn't look very pleased by Teigen's interruption.
The Dining Nook
The couple have an informal breakfast area set off to the side, with a small circular table that can seat four.
The floor-to-ceiling sliding glass walls provide wonderful views of a small canyon just beyond their backyard.
Hanging With Some Friends
In this photo circa Halloween im 2019, Chrissy Teigen is hanging with some dead friends (and her French bulldog) in the living room area near the kitchen.
From this angle, you can see an outdoor wet bar beyond the large glass windows.
Steel and Clay Walls
The walls of the house are made from rolled clay and steel. Presumably, they're all up to code and don't leak. We don't imagine they would.
Rhianna sold the house for double what she paid for it, so she must have fixed all the cracks.
The Formal Dining Room
The house features a dramatic formal dining room, with an eye-catching ceiling that sports hand-crafted molding. Vintage chests line one side of the room, while the chandelier adds a modern touch.
"We like modern with still some edge to it and some warmth and some coziness," Legend told the Wall Street Journal.
The Movie Theater
The home includes an indoor theater with tiered flooring. Instead of individual seats, Teigen and Legend opted for large plush couches.
The popcorn machine is a nice touch, and surely a hit with their children.
Candy and Movies
If popcorn isn't your thing and you have a sweet tooth, there is a row of candy jars near the back of the movie theater.
Both Teigen and Legend have appeared in films and television. Teigen has appeared in numerous reality and cooking shows, and Legend has played himself in a well over a dozen TV shows, and also had a role in "La La Land."
Teigen currently stars in "Chrissy's Court," a "Judge Judy"-style show that has Teigen making judgments (which the show claims are real). It's on Quibi.
The home features a gym, which is stuffed with professional-grade equipment.
Teigen works out every day (even when she was pregnant with Luna). Her typical exercises involve dancing, boxing, and jumping rope, along with core-strengthening and tricep exercises.
Never Pay for a Gym Membership Again
While many of us might never go to the gym again because of that whole deadly virus thing, you wouldn't even think about stepping foot in a gym if you lived in Teigen and Legend's house.
That's because they have their home has its own gym with everything you need to stay in shape. Teigen is a boxing workout enthusiast. Her standing bag can be seen off to the side.
The Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is set on the second floor, overlooking Beverly Hills and the canyon below.
The entire back wall is a sliding glass door and opens up to the outside, where two wicker chairs are positioned on a cozy glassed-in balcony.
A Huge Fireplace
The hearth of this fireplace is electric and glassed-in, but the chute is enormous.
Like in the living room below, it's made of brass and extends to the ceiling.
A mounted television serves as the overmantle piece.
Charis and a Mirror
Off to one side are two plush bucket chairs and a large dressing mirror.
The wall has been decorated with a minimalistic painting of white leaves and thin tree limbs.
Down this small hallway, decorated with a modern pendant chandelier and postmodern side table, is a dressing room.
The Glam Room
Located near the master, the glam room has two salon-style swivel chairs and a big, expensive-looking massage chair.
Pictures of butterflies adorn the walls and a rack of shirts — likely Teigen's — is readily available for perusing.
Like the master bedroom, the dressing room also has an outdoor patio.
After 'Family Feud'
This photo of Teigen from her Instagram shows her laughing and stamping her feet in the glam room. It was taken sometime after the couple appeared on "Celebrity Family Feud" in July 2019.
"Verified I can’t say if we won or lost family feud but we definitely brought a flask, I definitely chipped a tooth and there was definitely a record set," Teigen wrote.
During that episode, Teigen tactfully discussed how she and Legend met on the set of Legend's music video "Stereo."
"We did the video, and then we had sex," she said, while Steve Harvey did his iconic "shocked" face.
Oh and, spoilers: Teigen and Legend lost to the Lisa Vanderpump and other cast members from "Vanderpump Rules."
The Master Bathroom
A picture window offers stunning views of the valley in the master bathroom. The countertops are the same custom-made, fold-over stone found in the kitchen.
The herringbone-patterned tile brings a warmth to the room, while the two nearly wall-length vanity mirrors give this already large room an even larger feel.
The tub is fully marbled by Teuco.
A unique feature of the master bathroom is this partition, which divides the shower from the rest of the room.
It's made from a translucent marble, which allows some light to shine through.
Where's the Toilet?
Not shown is the toilet, which we are assuming has finally been installed.
In January 2018, when the home was still undergoing renovations, Teigen tweeted that she ran home to pee but realized that the toilet was gone.
Legend them jumped in, and tweeted an explanation. "We’re upgrading our regular toilet to one of those fancy Japanese ones that opens itself and washes your butt. Apparently our contractor decided there should be a toilet-less transition period," he said.
Legend told the Wall Street Journal the closets are the “pièce de résistance” of the home, and it's easy to see why.
It's lined with glass closets and shelves, with a marble-encased dresser in the middle of the room.
Boots on Display
One section of the closet is devoted just to boots and purses.
Teigen has had a large closet (and lots of clothes) for a long time. While she and Legend lived in a $3.9 million New York City apartment, Legend filmed a video poking fun at his wife's enormous collection of boots and shoes.
Also note the ceiling speaker, so she can dance while she dresses.
Legend's section of the closet is smaller than Teigen's, naturally.
Both Teigen and Legend have their own clothing lines.
Teigen has a line with Revolve, and Legend sells his own shorts and T-shirts directly through his website.
A Children's Room
Teigen and Legend welcomed their first child, Luna, into the world in April 2016. They had a son, Miles, who was born in May 2018. We think this is Luna's room.
It includes a set of bully breed dog photos with flower crowns. Legend and Teigen are fans of bully breeds and owned three French bulldog rescues: Puddy, Pippa and the three-legged Frenchie (Puddy died in 2018, but the other two are still waddling and hopping along the house).
The couple adopted another rescue puppy, a poodle named Petey, at the beginning of 2020.
This is John Legend.
He loves his family, peanut butter sandwiches and music. He doesn't like beets or bad grammar (he earned a bachelor's degree in literature and graduated manga cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania), and he is 482 months old.
When putting him to bed, play "The Rachel Maddow Show."
Two funhouse mirrors shaped like blobs of mercury are mounted above a daybed that is lined with pillows and a few stuffed animals.
This room is located upstairs, near the master bedroom, and features dark, wide-plank hardwood flooring.
The couple made a really good decision while remodeling this room by keeping the bar and turning it into an arts and crafts area. Remove that strip of colorful polka dot wallpaper and take out the kids' stuff, and this would be a fantastic entertaining area for adults.
Miles' Baby Room
This room is for Miles, who turned 2 in May 2020. It has a minimalist design, with white walls and simple furniture.
The couple is selling because they need more space now that their third child is on the way. Tragically, Teigen lost her baby boy, Jack, on Sept. 30, 2020. She was about halfway through her pregnancy before suffering a miscarriage.
Her first two children were born via in vitro fertilization, while this pregnancy happened naturally. Teigen has said before that she didn't think natural insemination was possible for her.
The two have purchased another home in Beverly Hills.
Views from the Deck
A view from a deck, located at the rear of the house.
Teigen and Legend's house is located in the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Beverly Hills. According to realtor.com, the median sales price in this area is $2.25 million and homes only stay on the market for a median of 61 days.
The couple put their home up for sale at over 10 times that price, and the home already had an offer within 30 days of its listing date.
The back of the house includes a heated saltwater swimming pool/Jacuzzi combo enclosed in a herringbone pattern stone patio and a wooden deck with lounge chairs and outdoor furniture.
In the distance, there are two rather large house playsets near an elevated concrete structure that appears to be built into a small hill.
Teigen and Legend have said that they wouldn't have moved out if it weren't for space issues. It's easy to see why, since this place is sublimely beautiful at sunset.
The polished stone tables and huge potted plants along with the gorgeous sky make for a dramatic, exotic-feeling area.
Also in the backyard is this outdoor dining area, which includes a pergola wrapped in grapevine.
There's a wood-burning oven around this area, along with the gas-powered barbecue grill.
The outdoor lighting is powered, in part, with solar power.
Where Are They Headed?
In March 2020, the couple purchased a 3,500 square-foot penthouse in Manhattan's Nolita neighborhood. That penthouse is an expansion of another 2,610-square-foot penthouse which they bought in 2018 for $9.02 million, according to Mansion Global.
Both penthouses are located in the Brewster Carriage House, a historic nine-condo building constructed in 1856.
Updated: Teigen and Legend moved just a few miles away.
Living in 'The Balcony' of Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills Crest has been a longtime home to the Hollywood elite. Property developer George Read capitalized on an opportunity to cater to stars and starlets and built up much of the neighborhood.
One-hundred years ago, movie stars and Hollywood folk weren't as welcome in Bel-Air as they are now.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Read marketed it as "the balcony" of Beverly Hills.
Beverly Crest has that exclusive 90210 zip code where so many famous people live.
Past and present Beverly Hills residents include Jennifer Lawrence, Floyd Mayweather, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Grouch Marx, Demi More, Rob Reiner, Mia Farrow, Nicholas Cage, Steve Martin and Rod Stewart.
Their New Home
Teigen and Legend closed on this house in late September 2020.
It's located in Beverly Hills, not far from their previous residence.
They dropped $17.5 million on this 10,700-square-foot, seven-bedroom house.
That's 2,200 more square feet than their previous place.
And More Open
While their previous home was very open, this one is even more open.
The house has a retractable glass wall that spans a larger space than the one in their old home.
More Indoor/Outdoor Living
Teigen and Legend certainly have a thing for indoor/outdoor living, but who doesn't?
When you have as much money as this power couple does — they're worth $75 million together — it's certainly worth spending on a home with such a nice feature.
With a Huge Living Space
The open floorplan living space is 700 square feet, bigger than a tiny home and almost the size of a single-wide manufactured home.
A Beautiful Glass Fireplace
The most eye-catching feature of the main floor is the double-sided glass fireplace, which divides the floorplan while keeping it open.
The picture window-sized fireplace allows for clear sight into both rooms, with the added bonus of cozy blue flames.
No More 33-Foot Ceilings
The ceilings may not be 33 feet in the entire main floor, but there is a huge opening above in this area that includes large glass windows for lots (more) light.
Their New Kitchen
Similar to their old home when Rihanna owned it, the kitchen has two islands — one for eating and one for cooking.
We think they'll redesign it like they did last time.
Wall of Marble
The kitchen features a dramatic white and gray marble backsplash that runs the length of the entire wall.
There is seamless wood paneling on what is likely the fridge and other cabinets where the two double ovens are kept.
But something's missing.
Where's the Stove?
Where's the stove? Surely, it can't be that small patch of glass on this counter, indicating electric burners.
They must have bought this place with a big remodel in mind.
On the main level in the two-story home is this den, which features walnut paneling and light-colored hardwood flooring.
This space might be shared with the den. But even if it's not, every area on the main level can be reached by walking outside and around the house.
The recessed circular lighting above the desk is a nice touch.
One of Many Bathrooms
The home has 11 bathrooms. This is just one of them, and it's a half-bath (the listing doesn't say how many are full or half).
This bathroom has pinewood flooring, marble walls, and a floating wall-to-wall vanity.
A Guest Bedroom
This guest bedroom might be Vilailuck's new room.
There's certainly a lot of opportunities to shape it to her personality.
Upstairs, a wraparound balcony with a shaded, reflective glass railing allows homeowners to travel to and from any room.
The New Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is enormous. The ceilings are lower than their previous house, but the square footage seems to be almost double that of their old bedroom.
It also includes a gas fireplace, although this one is set off to the side by a lounging area and not centrally, as it was before.
Their home no longer looks out into a valley, but instead into the hills. There is an absolutely huge house on a hill facing them, too.
Let's hope those guys don't have binoculars.
The glass balconies do provide some privacy. This outdoor seating area, shaded by the extended ceiling, is as good a place as any to think up new recipes or songs.
The New Master Bath
Their new master bathroom isn't quite as impressive as their old one, but it also hasn't had a makeover yet. But frankly, it doesn't really need one.
Instead of a picture window by the tub, there is a wall of windows. The shower is now behind a pair of glass doors instead of behind a marble partition.
One common architectural design of this house is the floating vanities in the bathrooms, which make the room feel bigger than it is.
In the back, there appears to be a sauna or steam room area, and the toilets seem to have been secluded into water closets.
A Striking Bathroom
Or perhaps this bathroom should be the master? There's no reason why it couldn't.
This one has marble floors and walls, with a large LED-lit vanity mirror and a sizable walk-in shower.
Another Living Area
We think those are two inset flat-screen televisions on the wall and not pictures.
If they are, two people can pop on headphones and watch whatever they want without disturbing the other.
Lots of Air Conditioning
It's getting hotter and hotter in California, but this house will stay cool.
It has five air conditioning systems and five tankless water heaters that keep the 10,700-square-foot house cool and the water warm.
The New Theater
The new movie theater is almost identical to their old theater, so they should have no problems moving the popcorn machine and candy inside and settling down for a movie.
This room measures 500 square feet.
The biggest difference here is the neon-colored LED lighting, which lights up the stairs and the walls in right-angled strips.
While Legend and Teigen's old home had a bar, it was a small one. This house has an entire room dedicated to spirits and beer, along with two side-by-side televisions for watching sports.
Not pictured is the wine cellar, which holds 300 bottles.
There's a Cabana
Outside, by the pool, there's this cabana made with walls of glass.
Outside is an informal dining area below an extended roof for shade.
The Infinity Pool
A saltwater infinity pool lines the back of the property. From this angle, it looks like the backyard just drops away.
The pool is an impressive 100 feet long.
The Pool Has Water Features
You can lay down on the lounge chairs resting on the Baja shelf as water froths up from four miniature fountains.
Or you can just watch streams of arching water expelled from jets on the other side.
A Very Modern Residence
The mansion is a new build, having been finished in 2020. It appears to have been a spec house, with the land (or previous dwelling) being offered for $3.25 million in 2014.
The home was first listed at $18.725 million in March 2020, then dropped in price to $17.95 million that July.
Only Five Minutes Down the Road
The modern mansion is only five miles away from Legend and Teigen's old home.
Perhaps if it were located on the hilltops that the mansion faces, they could see the lights of their old abode at night.
Gather Around the Fire Pit
Between the cabana and pool is a sunken fire pit, lined with built-in seating.
There also appears to be LED lighting by the floor.
A Beautiful Place to Spend a Night
There's an outdoor bar area facing the firepit and the beautiful views.
Beyond the bar, in the distance, is an outdoor kitchen.
The house sits on an 0.87-acre lot and is protected by a 16-camera security system and Creston smart home technology.
The front of this mansion has a large, 6,600-square-foot motor court.
On the second floor, vertical built-in shades create privacy for the large pocket glass sliding doors that face the street.
Views of Downtown
This aerial picture of the mansion shows the skyline of Los Angeles, which should be visible from the home's upper levels.
There's ample greenery, too.
An Expensive Spec House
This spec house is 448 percent more expensive than nearby properties, according to realtor.com. Most homes in the area sell for about $2.3 million.
Whoever built this modern mansion certainly had Hollywood's elite in mind. The $17.5 million price tag breaks down to $1,636 per square foot.
The Days Ahead
Teigen and Legend have some tough days ahead.
"We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience," Teigen wrote on Instagram on Sept. 30. "But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it."
Her post received over 9.4 million likes, with thousands of comments from celebrities and regular people wishing her and her family heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers.
