Celebrity Garbage Items That Sold for More Than Your Rent
Celebrity memorabilia usually means signed albums, costumes, or film props, but some of the most expensive items have been far more unusual. Fans have spent thousands on things like used tissues, half-eaten meals, and personal medical waste items never meant to be saved, let alone sold.
These objects were discarded or forgotten, yet ended up at auction with price tags higher than most people’s rent. Here are fifteen of the strangest things celebrities left behind that found eager buyers.
Justin Bieber’s Lock of Hair

At the height of Biebermania, Justin handed Ellen DeGeneres a small gift during an interview—a lock of his signature hair, sealed in a clear box and signed. It later hit eBay and sold for $40,668. The money didn’t go into anyone’s pocket, though. The full amount went to an animal rescue organization.
William Shatner’s Kidney Stone

This wasn’t a joke. After passing a kidney stone, Shatner put it up for auction. A gambling site called GoldenPalace.com bought it for $25,000. The money helped fund homes through Habitat for Humanity. Shatner called it the most expensive stone ever sold, and he probably wasn’t wrong.
John Lennon’s Tooth

Some people inherit houses. Lennon’s housekeeper got a molar. Years later, that same tooth was sold to a Canadian dentist who apparently wanted to display it in his office. The now-fragile tooth fetched $31,200 at auction. While DNA tests were never run, the Beatles’ bite mark in music history was enough to close the deal.
Britney Spears’ Hair – Sold for Over $1 Million (Allegedly)

2007 was rough for Britney Spears. She shaved her head, and someone at the salon swept up the clippings. Next thing you know, locks of her hair popped up online with a million-dollar price tag. It’s still unclear what actually sold and what didn’t, but several bids were reportedly serious.
Scarlett Johansson’s Used Tissue

On The Tonight Show, Johansson caught a cold from Samuel L. Jackson and promptly blew her nose on air. She sealed the tissue in a plastic bag, signed it, and it eventually sold for $5,300—all of which went to charity.
Russell Crowe’s Jock Strap

Crowe auctioned a leather jock strap worn in Cinderella Man as part of his “Art of Divorce” sale. Originally a joke item, it caught unexpected attention and sold for $7,000. The buyer was a comedian, John Oliver, who later donated it to an Alaskan Blockbuster for comedic effect.
Justin Timberlake’s Half-Eaten French Toast

In 2000, after an interview at Z-100 radio, JT left behind a few syrupy bites of French toast. A teenage fan bought the leftovers on eBay for $1,025. Her plan was to freeze-dry it and show it off like fine art.
Ronald Reagan’s Blood (Allegedly)

A vial supposedly containing dried blood from the former president, taken after a 1981 assassination attempt, was put up for auction and reached $30,000. Reagan’s family disputed the authenticity, calling the contents unverifiable. The sale was ultimately pulled due to backlash.
Pharrell Williams’ Grammy Hat

When Pharrell walked into the 2014 Grammys wearing that now-iconic oversized Vivienne Westwood hat, the internet exploded. Memes were made. Arby’s got involved, mostly because the hat looked suspiciously like their logo. So when Pharrell put it up for auction, Arby’s actually bought it for over 44 grand.
Marilyn Monroe’s Chest X-Rays

Three X-rays from a 1954 hospital visit were auctioned for $45,000. Monroe was then married to Joe DiMaggio, so the documents were filed under “Marilyn DiMaggio.” Her physical appearance was iconic, but buyers here paid for a literal scan of her insides.
J.D. Salinger’s Toilet

Salinger, who famously shunned fame, might’ve rolled in his grave over this one. His old toilet—complete with signs of use—was listed for a million bucks on eBay. Though no sale was ever confirmed, it came with a handwritten note vouching for its origins. Call it the Catcher in the Restroom.
Queen Elizabeth II’s Monogrammed Underwear

Royal underwear is not a phrase you expect to see on eBay, but in 2010, a silky pair marked with the Queen’s monogram was auctioned after circulating among collectors (yes, really). Despite questions about provenance, they still fetched $18,000. The royal family, unsurprisingly, had no comment.

Napoleon’s Hair Could Fetch $13,000

After Napoleon died in exile, someone clipped a lock of his hair and kept it sealed in a frame. The strand came with old handwritten documents tracing its origin, and it eventually went to auction in New Zealand. It sold for $13,000.
Kurt Cobain’s Cardigan Priced at $334,000

The iconic olive-green cardigan worn by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain during the band’s MTV Unplugged performance in 1993 became one of the most valuable pieces of grunge-era memorabilia. The sweater, which was stained, cigarette-burned, and never washed, was auctioned for a staggering $334,000 in 2019.
